There are plenty of organisations offering competitions and prizes for looking after our planet. So we decided to go in a slightly different direction.
We simply ask children to challenge themselves to do something small, medium or big for their part of the planet.
Small YESfest Challenges
There are hundreds of small things we can do that can make a big difference the more others join in.
Maybe we can try going meat-free for one meal a week. Maybe we can try growing something from seed for the first time. It’s the starting to take action that’s important.
Medium YESfest Challenges
We can do many medium-sized things that can make a bigger difference when we do them together.
Maybe we can put away our waste bin or even our recycling bin for a day and find ways to reuse and repurpose everything we would normally throw away that day.
Maybe we try picking up three pieces of litter on the way to and from school. For a week.
BigYESfest Challenges
Dream big but start small.
Maybe take a small or medium challenge and go further with them.
Imagine if you bought a class set of litter pickers. And every week a different class picked up litter to and from school. That’s big!
Imagine going meat-free one day a week. Imagine going meat-free four days a week. That’s really big!
That’s a YESfest Challenge.

Inside Out - The People’s Art Project
During YESfest Pendle all participants took a portrait. Each image will be printed in large format and then displayed side by side at an open-air exhibition in Barrowford for a special YESfest-themed Inside Out Project global art exhibition.
